Styria was a region within the Habsburg empire. After the empire collapsed in 1918 one part of Styria stayed in Austria and another in Slovenia. On our trip we’ll be exploring this interesting historical region, famous for its wines, where regional identity is very important.
We will start our excursion of Slovenian Styria region with the visit of the city Velenje. Velenje is only one hour distant from Ljubljana. There the biggest mine in Slovenia is located and is operating since 1875. We are not joking, the mine is really fully accessible and wheelchair friendly! Like the adventure is not unique enough, after it is completed you’ll also get a miners snack, so you can get a complete picture of the eating habits of the people working in mines. In the afternoon we are heading towards another city in Styria, Slovenske Konjice. In the complete accessible Wine Cellar Zlati Grič (Golden Hill) we are going to taste some of the best wines from Slovenian Drava wine region and taste some of the local specialties. After the wine tasting we’ll be heading back to hotel.
