INTERNATIONAL TOURIST GUIDE DAY 2020 IN SLOVENIA

INTERNATIONAL TOURIST GUIDE DAY 2020 IN SLOVENIA

Every 21st of February we are marking the International tourist guide day. That was the day when WFTGA (World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations) was founded. The first celebrations took place in 1990, when 15 countries took part. 30 years later, more than 110 countries marked that important day, for all those working in the tourist sector.

Slovenia as always also took part the activities. In fact this year we even made something special. We didn’t just mark our holiday on 21st of February by organizing free of charge tours around the country, but organized different activities all the way from 17th of February till the 1st of March. In exactly two weeks time more that 60 free of charge guided tours were organized in more than 40 different Slovenian cities and regions. The most tours of course took place in the capital Ljubljana, but more than ever other local organizations and cities took part in this holiday by organizing events and free of charge guided tours all around the country. Most tours were organized by the Association of Regional Tourist guides of Slovenia, but also some other societies like Club of Professional Tourist Guides of Slovenia and Union of Tourist guides of Slovenia organized several tours for the local population. This year also the tours for the wheelchair users and visually impaired were organized.

In the gallery you can see a few interesting moments of sightseeing tours throughout Slovenia, which took place in the period from 17th of February till  the 1st of March 2020.
