Last week in Brazil the 24th summer Olympic games for the deaf ended. These were the most successful summer games for Slovenia so far. Slovenia won four medals – two gold and two bronze medals.
All Slovene medals were won by the ladies Leja Glojnarič and Iris Breganski in the athletics competition. Slovene men Marino Kegl and Tadej Encl competed in tennis and athletics competition respectively, but were not medal contenders. After the 1995 Finland winter Olympic games for the deaf, this were the best result in the history of the Slovenian deaf sportsmen. Damnjan Lazar from the Union of the sport of the disabled of Slovenia Paralympic committee says future is bright and that the medals are an encouragement for all other disabled sportsmen in Slovenia.
